Settings › Data › Backup & restore has a Snapshot card. It makes one file (.tar) with everything in the store: orders, dispatches, returns, bookings, claims, payment receipts (CPR) and their photos, label files, notes, messages, history, and your settings and team. Files from claims and the Files page are included too (files that live in your own Google Drive are only linked, not copied).
Download everything
- Press Download all. A bar shows the progress; a big store takes a few minutes and you can leave the page open.
- When it says ready, the file downloads. Keep it private: it holds your customers' data.
Untick Include the files for a smaller, faster copy of the records only.
Restore everything
- Under Data › Backup & restore › Advanced › Restore everything from a snapshot choose the file. It is sent in small pieces and checked.
- The page shows what is in it: which store and site it came from, when, how many records and files.
- Choose whether to also restore the settings, team and connections (see below) and the files.
- Type the store's name to confirm, and press Restore now.
Restoring replaces the records here with those of the snapshot. Before it changes anything it saves a copy of what is there now (under Copies made before a restore, without files; the three newest are kept for 30 days), and while it runs the store is closed to everybody else. A restore that is interrupted can be continued with Continue. Files already on the server are never deleted; the snapshot's files are added, and a file with the same name is replaced.
Taking a snapshot to test on another site
Make a snapshot on the live site, open Backup & restore on the test site and restore it there. Leave settings, team and connections off: the test site keeps its own logins and connections, and nothing on it can reach your real courier, shop or mail. The records and files arrive as they are, so you can test with real orders. If you do turn it on, the live site's team arrives, and keys saved for couriers, mail and Shopify (which are locked to the site that saved them) have to be entered again.
Good to know
- Only an owner can restore. Anyone with the backup permission can download.
- The snapshot of a store can be restored into any store, also on another installation of the tracker. A snapshot made by a newer version cannot be restored on an older one.
- If the new site is on an older version, the missing columns are added by the restore.
- The file is kept on the server for two days after it is made, then removed. Downloading does not change anything in the store.
